In 2018 I had a goal to send 52 handwritten cards of admiration to people who inspire me. I got 26 into the mail. I should pick up where I left off. It was a humbling exercise in gratitude, and several people told me it brightened their day. Writing them always brightened mine 💌

Got to see my brother and his family this weekend. First time since the pandemic hit. Very grateful to have spent the time with them. I was plumb tuckered by the end of the day. I think we all were!

I spent time last week using a web app to create an interactive graduation program for our fiscal academy. I started to share it then thought it might be an invasion of privacy since all the names are shown. The app is worth a look: genial.ly (via Wonder Tools newsletter).

I’ve got the final hearing playing in the background. It is absolutely chilling. Horrifying. I’ve got a stomach ache from it and am on the verge of full on panic. Anyone who still supports Trump in any way, I just can’t with you.

So Gallup has these fillable templates you can use to recognize or thank a coworker or whatever. I decided to give one to someone I really value. I don’t let this dorkiness out that often so I hope she appreciates it. Oh who am I kidding. I dork out all the time. Case in point:

Did you know the USPS offers a service called Informed Delivery that shows you what mail is coming to your inbox? It’s dumb, and more and more the emails have just as much digital junk as anyone’s junk folder. It’d actually be a useful service if it: 1) stopped including digital advertising and SPAM in the emails and instead used that screen real estate for, I donno, vaccination campaigns, maybe?! 2) let you block unwanted junk mail from arriving in the first place and 3) was smart enough to link you to a valid bill payment site for utility bills received.

On Friday, Governor DeWine announced he is enhancing his Bold Beginning Initiative to remove barriers to health care, ease financial burdens, and support parents. “I have a vision for Ohio to be the best place in the nation to have a baby and raise a family," said Governor DeWine. (Translation: I have a vision to force Ohio women to stay in Ohio and have children whether they want to or not.

On this day in 2013 I was in library school learning how to library. On this day in 2018 I gave a “fuck Trump” speech at a library conference in front of three hundred or so librarians.

MOURNING ROUTINE

I feel like a child asking this, but why are we letting Putin do what he’s doing? (Or anyone else for that matter?) Like, at what point do we stop reporting on it and really step in and stop it? My feelings are conflicted though. Most of the time I’m like “The USA isn’t the world police and needs to take its dick out of everyone else’s desert and put it back in its pants and just quit meddling and white savior-ing other countries”.
