“DON’T SAY GAY” BILL ADVANCING IN FLORIDA

Florida representative proposes requiring schools to out LGBTQ kids to their parents — even if it puts them in danger: The school principal or his or her designee shall develop a plan, using all available governmental resources, to disclose such information within 6 weeks after the decision to withhold such information from the parent. I’m so livid about this I don’t even know where to start. Why are conservatives (ahem, and their donors - - eg Pepsico) so damn in your business all the time?

28 DAYS OF BLACK HISTORY - DAY 18: STRANGE FRUIT

The “28 Days of Black History” series has been fun, challenging, enlightening, and informative. This issue shares the harrowing story and meaning behind the song “Strange Fruit” made popular by Billie Holiday. I maintain to this day that if you can listen to it - if you can move through the pain in her voice and delivery - without weeping, without reflecting on past and present inequities and injustices, then you have some soul searching to do.

MASKS? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' OH WAIT YES WE STILL DO

Omicron BA.2 variant is spreading in U.S. and may soon pick up speed : Shots - Health News : NPR: Omicron is still infecting more than 100,000 people and killing about 2,000 people every day in the U.S. So even though BA.2 doesn’t appear to make people sicker than the original omicron, just slowing down the decline in new cases would translate to more serious illness and death.

I swear wars would end if people were just allowed to wake up every day when their bodies naturally want to.

🎵 I pulled out a few old tour books last night to look at with Michael, including this, the first tour book I ever bought at the first concert I ever went to: Tori Amos’s Under the Pink tour in Cincinnati, 1994. I was so obsessed with her. Admittedly, I’m still obsessed with her early work. It had such a significant impact on me. We also looked at my Madonna Reinvention Tour tour book from 2004.

I’m not really ready to say much more about this other than I’m taking a break from non-sobriety. I don’t know how long of a break. Two weeks? Two years? A week and a day? Not sure. All I can really say is that today I am doing ok. Today I am embracing sobriety.

PRECEDENT BE DAMNED (DAN RATHER)

On the Court’s staying of a unanimous ruling by a three-judge district court panel which said that Alabama’s new congressional map violated the Voting Rights Act by denying fair representation for Black Alabamians, Rather writes: Instead of legal minds wrestling with difficult issues, we see two-bit politicians dressing up in robes. That more than a half century of fundamental legal principle and landmark legislation can be tossed like it was a half-eaten turkey sandwich is not only a disgrace, it is dangerous.

LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE GOT THE MEMO

One of my team members was running a little late today, for like the first time ever, so I might’ve razzed her a little bit while mostly airing some sarcastic grievances of my own. I also might’ve created a public record in the process. Please don’t request it. Thank you in advance.

BALTIMORE

This is considered like the holy grail of Tori Amos collectibles. It’s a 45 she recorded as a teen (before she was “Tori”). 🎵 The asking price doesn’t surprise me. But the shipping? Really? I mean, like, really? You’re really gonna do that, pal? I’m tempted to make an offer for what he’s asking MINUS FIVE DOLLARS. 💵💵💵💵💵👎🏼

OCEAN TO OCEAN TO OHIO

Tori Amos: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert : NPR: Her renditions of the title track and “29 Years” are magnetic, but what really makes this set a treat is the commentary she shares before each song. Always at her best when she’s alone with a piano, this performance showcases the depths of her maturity both in voice and thought. Also that Baker Baker is amazing. 🎵 I’m glad I bought a ticket to one of her Ohio shows.

HOW A NEW PROPOSAL TO STOP TRUMP FROM STEALING THE 2024 ELECTION COULD BACKFIRE

How a new proposal to stop Trump from stealing the 2024 election could backfire: All of this has created renewed interest in amending the Electoral Count Act, which establishes the technical procedures to certify the results of the Electoral College, to make it more difficult for Trump to create chaos in 2024. But some of the proposals misunderstand the nature of the threat and may make it more likely — not less — that Trump could successfully steal the presidency in 2024.
