Nobody Loves You More than Kim Deal

Kim Deal’s new album, Nobody Loves You More, is quickly growing on me. It’s nostalgic and familiar but like nothing anyone else is putting out right now, and like nothing she’s produced before. The string and horn arrangements are unexpected, lush, and provide an unusual, lovely backdrop.

I thought the ballad “Are You Mine?” was a love song when I first heard it.

Her mother had dementia. As they were passing each other in the hallway one day, her mother grabbed her arm and asked, “Are you mine?”

You can listen to the song’s evolution from 2013 to 2024 on Apple Music.
