The cover art for Buckingham Nicks might just be my favorite. It’s so emblematic of the time, a time before my own. The photograph captures clear innocence and a sort of steamy, self-assured look-you-in-the-eyes sexuality. Gorgeous.
I found the record at a store in San Francisco when I was there for my first (and thus far only) American Library Association conference. It took place over Pride weekend and I got to march in their pride parade with the San Francisco public library. The pride march and festival just happened to take place the day after the Obergefell decision came down.
It was glorious.
Of course, not everyone was celebrating:

It was an incredible experience to be in San Francisco in that moment, on that day of all the days. Going record shopping and finding this gem was one of many highlights of that trip.
After returning home, I had the opportunity to give a presentation to our State Library’s board. I called it, “I Left My ARC in San Francisco” (ARC = Advanced Reader Copy) One of the board members said, “We need to hang onto him,” when I finished.
It was a few years later when I let go of what had become a pipe dream to be a library director. I’d had several interviews, one for a small library here in central Ohio that I know I could’ve been successful in, but they all wanted long-term public library experience (which I don’t have) rather than equivalent transferable skills (which I do have).
