"Blues In The Night (My Mama Done Tol' Me)" by Cab Calloway and His Orchestra
What is the oldest song you like?
I had to see when "Blues in the Night" was released vs. "Sincerely" by The McGuire Sisters.
"Sincerely" came out in 1954. "Blues In The Night" came out in 1941. I found it by accident and immediately started to daydream about what it would've been like to sing it as a solo back when I was in Vox, the auditioned ensemble of the Columbus Gay Men's Chorus. I was only in Vox for a year. I did get to sing a solo, my first (and essentially only) solo performance. I sang Allez-Vous En, a Cole Porter song I knew via Martha Wainwright's version of it.
Also, I first learned who Cab Calloway was in the 90s. He had a cameo in the music video "Alright" by Janet Jackson.
