And a good Insurrection Day to you, too.

Today we had a scare. We thought Lily got outside. I got angry. Really, really angry at Michael. I apologized later, after we found her in the basement. I thought he’d let her get by him at the doorway when we had a quick visitor from a Facebook Marketplace buyer. He didn’t deserve my wrath, and he said as much. I don’t blame him. When I was outside walking around the block looking for Lily, I ran into an old friend who I didn’t know lives in our neighborhood.
🎵 I’m at the beauty salon and they’ve got a country music station playing on the radio and every song is the exact same song and they’re all absolutely disgusting. Contemporary country music is manufactured junk 🤢
Dear Representative Swearingen
Friday, January 3, 2025
Ohio just sent a piece of legislation to the Governor’s desk for signature. Introduced by Ohio Representative DJ Swearingen (R) (a real piece of shit), the law is, well, a real piece of shit. The law is part don’t-say-gay and part Christian nationalist nocturnal ejaculation. The bill requires parents to be notified about “sexuality content” that would be taught in classrooms, with the option for the children to be opted out of the discussions.
228 apps on my iPhone. I probably use about 10 of them. Let’s clear out some of this digital clutter. The Purge begins…
Nosferatu is a Christmas movie
I mean at this point why fight it
One of my favorite films (like in the top 3) is The Exorcist. It’s the first movie I saw where the director’s impact was truly significant to me. I watched Leap of Faith last night, an extended interview with Friedkin, and took note of the 30+ films he mentioned. I want to view the lot this year.
Michael’s Christmas gift from last year did not get a lick of good use in 2024, so I’m doing something about that. Every so often I’m going to get one of those amazing vintage Muppets out of the toy chest and display it where I can see and admire it. First up? Gonzo the Great.
Mocktails up! Happy New Year
I think I have a new therapist.
Great vibe, clearly a very intelligent fellow, already working up a plan/roadmap, upfront and transparent, experienced with trauma/PTSD, ticks a lot of the right boxes in general, along with some interesting coincidences.
I think I’m ready for this.
Ohio passes ‘Parents’ Bill of Rights;’ bill heads to governor’s desk
Schools will also be required to notify parents if their child requests counseling or asks to be called by a different name or pronoun.
Fuck you, Mike DeWine. Fuck you straight to hell. I hope you fucking rot. Miserable fuck.
Apple TV+. Severance. Season 1 finale. O. M. F. G.
The end of the year is a good time to get your free credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. I’m thinking about placing a security freeze with each one. A security freeze helps prevent potential credit grantors from accessing your credit report without your consent.
Watch the documentary Bad Faith before the inauguration.
Apple Music has an “Inspired By No Doubt” playlist that features The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and even I know that’s some straight up trash algorithming.
🐱 The vet found a sudden & strong heart murmur when he examined Maggie cat today. Not time to worry, he said, but I am just a wee tiny bit of an apocalyptic catastrophic level worrier of principal proportion. (He could see panic starting & reassured me again that it’s not time to worry.)
🎬 Pulp Fiction but as a Hallmark movie.
I live next to a small public park. On my way back from picking up some fast “food” I decided I’d take the scenic route and drive once around it. I saw three squirrels. One of them was alive. And now I’m having an existential sort of despair and depression listening to “Cuts You Up” by Peter Murphy.
I think I’m going to try to get my Ulysses subscription money’s worth this coming year and make it my go-to for text. I looked briefly at Drafts and Taio. I didn’t quite jive with them. I’ve used Ulysses mostly for long form blog posts here, but it may now be my ultimate repository.
