I don’t know what is a Billie Ellish but it is all over Apple Music. Is it a book? Or a film?
🎶Du nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh They say it’s my birthday!
🎶Du nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh It’s my birthday too, yeah! (?)
Wait I think I got part of that wrong.
Look what Michael got me! I literally loudly gasped out loud.

A Letter from a Democrat
Wednesday, December 25, 2024
Mostly on my own, but with a little help from GPT, I put together a letter that I intend to send to Democratic Party leadership at the local, county, state, and national level presuming I find their mailing addresses. I hope to write more in 2025 on some kind of regular cadence, with each letter narrowing in on a specific issue where I think we need to be doing a better job.
In 2023 and 2024, UnitedHealth Group’s political action committee reported donating $2.95 million to federal campaigns and spending $16.62 million on lobbying expenses.
And our girl’s federal campaign was the top recipient :(
Health Insurance Execs Should Live in Fear of Prison, Not Murder
The first Over the Rhine song I ever heard was “Should” from their album, Eve. Years later, after learning my HIV status, I was reminded that “Should” is “a pop song about a friend who fell radically in love with someone HIV positive.”
It will always be a special album to me.
The Color Purple (2023)
Saturday, December 21, 2024
I had strong doubts about watching the movie musical based on the broadway musical based on the film based on the book The Color Purple by Alice Walker. But I liked it a lot. It takes quite a bit for a film-versioned musical to make me suspend disbelief long enough to appreciate people bursting into song and dancing en masse. This one did it, over and over. The director’s technique was novel and fresh, the actors were sublime, the choreography was nothing short of perfection, the music was captivating, and these all came together to tell a necessary story that, like its predecessor, breaks, heals, and weeps with both hope and sorrow.
Lindsey Vonn had knee replacement surgery. She’s coming out of retirement and Republicans are losing their shit over it. “She wasn’t born with that knee!” “She’ll have an unfair advantage!” “Which bathroom is her knee going to use?!” “That knee looks like an elbow!”

Over the Rhine: The Darkest Night of the Year
Monday, December 16, 2024
Reality Christmas. Cold nights are a quiet mystery on this record. A slow winter welcome rather than a hurried, commercial rush around. A place of warmth, song, and comfort inside a house that smells like home. This record is the grey chimney smoke that heats a cold, black sky holding a full moon and all the constellations in his hands. It is a cat’s contented purr, a sleepy-from-playing-in-the-snow good dog’s light snore while she dreams in front of the fireplace.
A lovely photo of a lovely man whom I call my husband. He’s wearing my Highlights for Children sweatshirt!
Ohio is raising its minimum wage from $10.45/hour to $10.70/hour.
To meet the average cost of living in Ohio in 2024, someone would need to bring in $47,768 annually or $22.93/hour.
According to ChatGPT, anyway. (I haven’t cancelled my subscription yet.)
We’re ALL holding out for a hero, Bonnie Tyler.
We all are.
OpenAI is donating $1M to Trump

Obviously that’s gross so I told it to write an email for me explaining to OpenAI why I’m canceling my ChatGPT pro subscription. It did a pretty good job by the 3rd try. Neither my cancellation, opinion, nor email will matter, and I’ll probably return to it one day when its inevitable ubiquity forces us all to acquiesce. But not today, Satan. Not today.
Murder. A Few Thoughts On The Subject

Someone shot and killed a very rich CEO. A lot of people are shocked by the incident and condem the man who shot the CEO. The shock over and condemnation of this incident confuses me. Here on one hand we have one man whose decisions have caused hundreds, if not thousands, if not millions of deaths, bankruptcies, pains, and sufferings. This one man’s hands were (and still are) soaked with the blood of everyone from saint to sinner, and all he did with his time was straighten his necktie and laugh all the way to the bank.
I forgot my coat today. I have a hoodie on, but I wouldn’t dare disturb this purple hair, so I pulled the hood on far enough to cover my ears, but no further. Thankfully my walk to Starbucks and then to the office tower isn’t too far.
I want to re-up my RSS subscription game in the coming year. First thing’s first - I need to do some serious feed weeding. A zillion feeds and, as of right now I have 4,427 unread articles. And they keep multiplying. It’s like they’re a big wet Mogwai or something. hums Gizmo’s song
Got the bashed in car window fixed ($0 deductible!). Driving home, I noticed a quite noticeable garage in an alley to my left. I put on the brakes, threw it into reverse, and turned into the alley so I could snap this pic. It made a bad day better.
This woman is a hero. I wouldn’t be surprised if this case goes all the way up. She’ll lose, of course, but maybe that will galvanize some people.
Ohio teacher sues district after suspension for classroom books with LGBTQ+ characters
My car got broken into. I just threw a shit fit. Literally jumping up and down and screaming “Fuck those motherfuckers” over and over. Nothing pisses me off more than this. Nothing. I have a real deep hatred for people who do this shit. It makes me fucking explode. My whole day is shit now. And they don’t give a flying fuck as long as they got the spare change in my fucking glove box (joke’s on them because there wasn’t any). Goddammit I cannot stand it!!!
