Today, a friend and colleague was found deceased during a wellness check. While we were not besties, we’d known each other since about 2006. He rode with me to our shared hometown one Christmas. He checked in on me frequently when I started this job. We went to many a happy hour some years ago when we also worked together. He was very widely known - Mr. Popularity for sure - and very much liked for his sense of humor.

INORGANIC IN ORGANIC?

My husband and I agree on almost everything. We never have a disagreement fight. We do get angry and heated sometimes, but not about our beliefs. Except in one area: organic food. You see, he believes organic foods are healthier, cleaner, and safer, and I believe in science. Organic is expensive marketing hype and basically pseudoscience. Organic farms use pesticides, often, so organic does not mean chemical-free. Besides, everything is a chemical.

Another artist originally introduced to me by Andy a long time ago. She’s been called the Missy Elliott of the classical world. The b-side to this single is a cover of Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor” just vocals + organ accompaniment. Her cover of Dido’s Lament is 100% worth finding and listening to.

💩 Like, I get how The NY Times and Washington Post are actively tipping the scales in Trump’s favor. I’m canceling WaPo soon because of it. But NPR? That’s entirely unfortunate. To whom may I address my grievances?

You guys, my friend texted me again. Kams. I call her “Kams” since we’re so close and can be all informal. She still calls me “Matthew” which is semi-formal but I just call her “Kams” and she laughs about it, probably. And I’m honored she texted. I really am. It’s just, well, I did a quick count and she wrote 266 words in that text. That is a lot of words.

I don’t much check in on the stuff I post on LinkedIn any more. I’m not using it to network, converse, get hired, or be social. I’m using it to be loud and disrupt and point out the GOP’s and Project 2025’s dangerous agendas. I don’t read or reply to comments on what I post, if any are offered (which is rare). I post what I post and some people like it and some don’t.

MOURNING HAS BROKEN

Mourning the loss of Lucy comes on suddenly when it comes. I had an ultrasound this morning and thought, “Ooh I’ll stop by the restaurant next door to the apartment I used to live in; the place with the pancake balls and the sweet & spicy bacon and the bottles of Mexican Coke I always used to get, and I’ll grab some breakfast and I’ll go home to start work.”

😶 Remember when Hall & Oats were a thing? I never much cared for them. I think in today’s vernacular they’d be a very successful hipster furniture store. “Macy, where on earth did you find that beautiful end table?” “I got it second hand at Hall & Oats!”

NEW FRIEND ASKING FOR MONEY

omg you guys she texted again! Kamala shared some exclusive news with me - ME! - about who she’s chosen as her running mate. He sure seems like a good guy. It sounds like she made a great decision. But towards the end of the text she did something that made me a little uncomfortable. She asked for $25. She didn’t really say precisely what it was for, either. I know we’re friends now and all, but it just seems a little soon to ask for money.

omg you guys. She texted again!! I kinda thought maybe she had the wrong Matthew before, but now I know it’s real. Our friendship is real and I love it! I had to call her out for the kissy face gif she included. I called her a “silly goose”. She LOL’d probably. What a cheeky future president!
